Nate,

Ah-hum, what part of Week 3 EXAM #2: Silence is Golden did you not get? The point of this EXAM is to see if the learning dog is able to read the handlers mechanics WITHOUT any spoken commands. No commands at all.

I can see you are striving the learn the new Halt mechanics. Your Right Turn is looking better and you do like the 'winch' I do for a lagging dog, yes?

On your Left Turn, you are leading with your left foot. Snub the leash, then plant the RIGHT foot at a 45 degree angle to the left and shift your weight to the RIGHT foot. THEN, turn your body left and take a small step with your left foot. This seemingly tiny change (to us) gives a learning dog much needed time to read the handlers mechanics and make the choice to turn left.

On the Sit/Stay, when a dog's head drops below its shoulders, it is going to break so go straight into the dog's face, give a sharp upward leash correction (say nothing) and back away again. Same thing for a dog lifting a paw (Fran lifted her right foot twice) give a Sit Correction and back away. Finally, if you move towards a dog from the front of their head, either praise or give a correction. Never move forward and do neither as that is considered threatening to the learning dog.

Oh joy, repeat this EXAM and do so silently. Silently...shhhhhhh-:)
